In actuality, the owners of La Duni, Taco, and Dunia Borga have built a mini-empire out of their Pan-Latin delicacies, with many sites across the metroplex. The food relies on the rich cuisines of Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba, and Mexico, and includes staples such as empanadas and tequila-guava baby back ribs, as well as a variety of creative sandwiches. Not to add the numerous choices for customization (Nutella, fruit, jams, chocolate sauce, or even plain butter and sugar).

Society Bakery, without the need for a surety, provides the finest cupcakes and whoopie pies in the city. House-made sodas in varieties like kaffir lime and Meyer lemon are available, as are unusual sundaes garnished with hemp seed brittle or candied bacon, and egg creams that can be spiked with vodka. If you’re looking for something a bit more solid, Remedy has you prepared there as well. Danyele McPherson, the executive chef, and recent Top Chef winner prepares everything from fancy fried bologna sandwiches and pork belly BLTs to shrimp with bacon-cheddar grits and southern fried duck confit. But no matter what you do, make sure you taste one of the sundaes. 

Suggested for Dessert because You aren’t required to sit for a main meal if you want to skip it. Just make sure to stop by for dessert.


It’s rare to see souffle on a menu board nowadays, let alone one devoted nearly completely to this stuffed French classic. Rise is a rustic French-inspired bistro that serves airy souffles in both sweet and savory varieties. You might simply come here just for sweets, but you’d lose out on the restaurant’s famous marshmallow soup, tomato carrot bisque with pesto, and small goat cheese souffles. Souffles that include everything from jambon and gruyere to lobster and foie gras are other options. Salads, sandwiches, and even steak frites are available as non-souffle options. And best of luck deciding which wonderful dessert to taste. There are, of course, creme brulee and fruit tarts.

This beautiful and extremely popular pie shop, housed in a renovated craftsman cottage, is one of the most charming sights in the Bishop Arts area. Megan Wilkes and Mary Gauntt, the pie mavens, provide a rotating schedule of seasonally inspired pies ranging from traditional buttermilk to a banana custard covered with maple and caramel. The Easy Operator, a French silk chocolate with a pretzel crust, and the Lord of Pies, a deep dish apple streusel delight, are two of their famous selections. They’ll wrap it for you to take away in a wooden basket with a wooden fork, or you can sit in the restaurant and have a piece with the topping of ice cream.

It is rated because Emporium has taken the kindness out of pies and converted them into something truly beautiful.


It’s no wonder that this Deep Ellum doughnut shop has lines out the door most of the time, with flavors including maple bacon, blueberry mascarpone, and creme brulee. Yet, you don’t need to be an early bird to enjoy these deep-fried taste bombs because the restaurant is open until the small hours of the morning on Sundays. Glazed focuses on small-batch, artisanal donuts (including cake and yeast types), which come in a dizzying array of varieties. For those who can’t decide between spicy and sweet, the do-lache, a hybrid doughnut kolache packed with maple-blueberry smoked sausage and topped with maple glaze, is available.

Glazed Donut Company is a good choice for dessert since it makes some of the most unique donuts in Dallas and stays open all night on Sundays.
