Corrado Palmieri, a professional investor, and SMU MBA graduate established this little Italian bakery in 2016 at the Dallas Farmers Market with the goal of presenting the Italian pastries he had grown up making with his grandmother in Southern Italy. A pasticciotto, a typical custard tart from Lecce, Puglia, can actually be found here possibly nowhere else in the city. Additional sweets include cannoncinos, a horn-shaped pastry filled with milk chocolate or vanilla-lemon cream, vanilla cream giraffes, which resemble donuts, and cornettos. Furthermore available are delicious pastries, homemade gelato, tea, and coffee beverages from Italy.

Palmieri Café is the only location in Dallas where you can find genuine Southern Italian pastries, making it a preferred bakery.

 REVERIE BAKESHOP

You wouldn’t know from the appearance of Reverie’s variety of tempting delicacies that not a single egg or dairy product was used in their creation. The bakery was created by pastry chefs Nancy Castillo and Racene Mendoza, who established the business in 2013 with the intention of offering nutritious, excellent vegan pastries that rival or even surpass their non-vegan counterparts in terms of taste. Sugar Fang Bakery, located within BrainDead Brewery in Deep Ellum, is run by pastry chef Amari’s Riddle and her staff, who produce appealing vegan delights inside a shoebox-sized display. Expect to find a variety of cupcakes, pop tarts, cookies, whoopie pies, blondies, and brownies despite the limited daily changing selection. The “skullets,” a doughnut-cupcake hybrid in the shape of a skull that is filled, glazed, and frosted, are their best-selling item. One with prickly pear jam and cinnamon-ancho buttercream frosting has been spotted recently.

 EMPORIUM PIES

Megan Wilkes and Mary Gauntt took the city’s pie game to a new level when they started up shop in a Bishop Arts 1930s home in 2012. They don’t have to travel far to get their fix now that they have three outposts under their belts. The Smooth Operator, a French silk chocolate pie with a pretzel crust, is their house specialty. Red velvet chess and a deep-dish caramel apple pie with a crunchy cinnamon streusel topping are two other must-haves. You can have a slice of ice cream and coffee in the shop or take it to go.
